01 Trafalgar to Turkey 29.09.2009

Continued from 02 Waveney Springs 13.09.2009

Tuesday 29 September 2009 - It looks as though I'll have no business support for my involvement in the One & Other Trafalgar 4th Plinth project. East Anglia doesn't give a fig.

Wednesday 30 September 2009 - Collected 18th clothing from Basil Abbott in Diss. Basil informs me the Trustee Committee seem likely to reject using the image The Vision of Paine on the wall of the Diss Museum. This has spurred me to take the original 1m x 3m painting to Trafalgar Square regardless of wind or rain. Basil works so hard to promote local interests and appears to be frequently met with apathy and non action. If his museum Trustees do not want the painting, I'll show it to the world!

The EU yet again telling Turkey how to manage their lives:

Thomas Hammarberg, head of the Council of Europe Human Rights Commission, has criticized the phrase “Ne mutlu Turkum diyene - Happy is he who calls himself a Turk"; part of the morning oath recited by Turkish primary school students. In his report, Hammarberg says the famous phrase amounts to 'ethnic discrimination'. The Turkish government responded: “The word ‘Turk’ does not represent an ethnic, linguistic or religious origin; it expresses Turkish citizenship.”
The government said the phrase, commonly attributed to Ataturk, expresses the loyalty of Turkish citizens to the country.

Just for fun, some sand art:

Having decided to take my painting The Vision of Paine to the 4th plinth, I've just been offered a small fibreglass pony from http://www.longmelfordsaddlery.co.uk/

Wednesday 07 October 2009 - Drove up to London with Lyndon last night and enjoyed cordial weather for my turn on the Trafalgar 4th Plinth. Met up with Frog who gave out leaflet information about my hour. The Square was empty, maybe half a dozen people around the plinth. At least the night calm; no wind or rain. The One & Other crew were welcoming and helpful. I received a phone call from Turkish newspaper Sabah, but otherwise the Turkish media coverage was limited to this thus far:

Frog and Lyndon were there to meet me back on street level outside the One & Office.
